The certificate of inheritance (succession certificate) is the official document showing who the heirs are and their shares. It is required to prove heirship in bank, land registry, and other official transactions.
How to obtain it
- It can be requested from a notary or the civil court of peace.
- If there is a foreign element or an inconsistency in the population records, the court route is required.
- Once obtained, estate procedures (distribution, title transfer, etc.) can begin.
Because the time limits for renouncing inheritance are short, it is important to start the process promptly.
